A guide for boards on considerations as they approve the 2021/22 budget
Overview Increasing staff costs, COVID-19 impact, and changes to school funding make schools budgets more challenging than ever. New requirements for boards in maintained schools and trusts mean tighter scrutiny of school finances is essential.

The following will be explored:
Understanding the schools national funding formula
Understanding the principles of resource management for schools
Using benchmarking data to understand the impact of previous spending decisions
Complying with the new regulations on financial transparency
How to review your 3-year financial forecast
Ensuring your budget reflects risks and your strategic direction
Questions to ask before you sign-off the budget
Ensuring your budget will have an impact on school improvement and pupils outcomes
