Improving outcomes for the disadvantaged using the Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium grant received by schools should be used to address barriers to learning for disadvantaged pupils. This session will guide boards on their role in ensuring this grant is making a difference in their school

This governance training provides practical guidance on the governance of the Pupil Premium and ensuring your provision supports the needs of disadvantaged pupils. Delegates will learn:

  • What is ‘disadvantaged’?
  • What should the Pupil Premium be used for?
  • What does a good Pupil Premium plan look like?
  • How to utilise research and available resources to improve your schools approach
  • How to monitor provision for disadvantaged pupils and hold to account
  • How to oversee value for money of the Pupil Premium fund

Who should attend?
Any governors or trustees who have responsibilities for Pupil Premium, or governors who want to understand more about governance of Pupil Premium and meeting the needs of disadvantaged pupils.

About NLGs
National Leaders of Governance (NLGs) are experienced chairs of governing boards. All NLGs have been through a rigorous designation process from the National College of Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), a part of the Department for Education (DfE), to demonstrate that we have the skills, experience and attributes to be a National Leader of Governance. All NLGs are either actively chairing standalone schools or academies, local governing boards or multi academy trust (MAT) trust boards or have done so within the last five years. All NLGs are trained to support governors through mentoring and coaching and provide governance services which are quality assured.
