Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme (Primary and Secondary)

Aim
This programme is for Primary and Secondary school TAs\LSAs and HLTAs who are, or who have the potential to be outstanding in their roles.  Following the programme they leave with clear ideas on how to enhance the teaching and learning they are responsible for and maximise their effectiveness.

About the Programme
This programme provides opportunity for delegates to share previous experience, expertise and new learning with colleagues in a safe, supportive yet challenging environment.  Delegates will feel inspired and motivated to take their learning back into their schools having an immediate impact with the pupils, parents, their SEN colleagues and the classroom teachers they work with.  The following areas are explored;

  • The qualities of an Outstanding Teaching Assistant
  • Questioning, Assessment, Differentiation
  • Coaching to enhance student engagement, learning and progress
  • Teaching and Learning (through classroom observations and wardrounds)
  • Behaviour for Learning and removing barriers to learning

How will my school and students benefit?
All aspects explored on the programme are immediately transferrable to the classroom. Delegates will significantly increase their effectiveness when working with students and teachers.  New ideas brought back to the school can be shared.

What previous Delegates have said…
“This programme has challenged complacency.  It has made me think about what I do and what I know and how I could improve.  I look forward to improving how I work with the children, encouraging them to think for themselves, helping them become independent learners and sharing these skills learned with other adults at all levels in school.”

“It has made me reassess my role within the school, extend children’s knowledge and understanding, ensure the children learn and want to keep learning and has made me a better TA.  It has helped me recognise my strengths and the children’s strengths and realise that working together we can reach goals.  It has given me an opportunity to speak to class teachers and express my thoughts and ideas around teaching in the classroom”
